5 Healthy Beauty Tonics to Truly Glow Inside & Out
Whatever’s going on on the inside – the foods you’ve eaten, how your organs are functioning, the flow of your blood and other fluids, how digestion is coming along, how stressed or tired you are, how content or angry, etc. – is, sooner or later, going to creep up on the outside, affecting the state of your skin, your hair, your fingernails, your teeth, your breath, your muscle tone, your face, and how your entire body looks, feels and smells.
You’ve heard it said a hundred times before: Changing the way you look on the outside starts by changing how you fuel yourself on the inside.
Health and beauty are symbiotically intertwined, two sides of the same coin, and your overall lifestyle – how you nourish yourself, how you move your body, how you sleep, how you handle stress, how you feel about yourself, how you communicate and interact with others – is the ultimate key to elevating both.
These elixirs are brimming with plant-based nutrients and phytochemicals that help to scrub, detoxify, heal and nourish your body, paving the way to glowing skin, shiny hair, a fit physique and a calm, happy mind.
5 Elixirs that Beautify You Inside & Out
Morning Wake-Up Water
Wake up your digestive juices, intestines, liver and cleansing cycles first thing in the morning to activate a day of high functioning, high energy, and clean healthy-looking skin.
8 oz. filtered spring water, warm
2 Tbsp chia seeds
1 organic lemon wedge
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
Stir the chia seeds into the warm water and allow it to rest on the counter for 20 minutes (you can use this time to shower and dress in the morning). Then sprinkle in the cayenne pepper, squeeze in the lemon, stir again and drink.
Cleansing Chlorella Coconut Water with Probiotics
Chlorella, a blue-green algae, is a nutritional powerhouse that even trumps kale, spinach and broccoli when it comes to nutrient density. Coconut water neutralizes the algae’s sea-weedy taste and contains essential electrolytes, creating an extremely refreshing, alkalinizing and hydrating tonic water that cleanses and tones skin and hair. Adding probiotics to help increase nutrient absorption and balance your gut flora is also essential for health and beauty.
8 oz. cool coconut water (with no added sugar or sweeteners)
2 tsp chlorella powder
¼ tsp high-quality probiotic powder
Stir the chlorella powder and probiotics into the coconut water and drink.
Revitalizing Skin Juice
Orange and green fruits and veggies are packed with carotenoids and vitamin C, powerful antioxidants known for maintenance of clear skin, tissue repair, skin elasticity and tone, and healthy bones and teeth. Turmeric, ginger and beets contain other anti-aging and anti-inflammatory antioxidants that contribute to a radiant complexion.
8 oz. cold coconut water
1 large orange, peel and seeds removed, quartered
1 mango, peeled, cored and sliced
1 medium carrot, sliced
½ beet, scrubbed and sliced
1 inch piece turmeric, grated (or 1 tsp turmeric powder)
1 inch piece ginger, grated (or 2 tsp ginger powder)
1 cup kale, washed and shredded
¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
Place the coconut water in the blender, and blend in the kale and parsley until smooth. Then blend in the carrot and beet, until smooth. Then add in the orange, mango, ginger and turmeric, until smooth and well combined. Serve cold.
Your Berry Beautiful Protein Smoothie
Protein is critical for the building, repair and maintenance of healthy looking skin, hair, nails, muscle tissue and essentially every part of your body. Essential fatty acids are an important part of the skin’s natural oil barrier, which keeps skin hydrated, plump and young-looking. That’s why regular consumption of both healthy protein and healthy fat sources are a must for any health and beauty routine. Berries are also becoming known for their beautifying properties, boasting fiber and powerful phytochemicals that help to keep the body free of toxins and free radicals while keeping hormones and metabolism in balance.
¼ cup fresh strawberries, green tops removed, sliced
¼ cup fresh blueberries
¼ cup fresh raspberries
¼ cup cranberries
2 raw shelled walnuts
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tsp raw shelled pumpkin seeds
1 scoop Pure Goodness Pumpkin Seed Protein – Natural Vanilla ®
¼ cup fresh kale
1 cup unflavored almond milk
½ tsp cinnamon
Place the almond milk in the blender, and blend in the kale until smooth. Add in the hemp protein, walnuts, chia seeds and pumpkin seeds, blending until smooth. As the blender continues whirling, gradually add in the berries, finishing off with the cinnamon, blending until smooth and frothy. Try the smoothie in a bowl and top with your favorite toppings!
